Wanderland Collective

About Wanderland

Wanderland Collective, founded by Carike Greffrath and Nicole Levenberg in 2018, is an art-into-design company that creates rich in narrative, well-considered luxury homeware and accessories from the works of South African artists. The strength of the brand lies in the Collective of local talent, where the juxtaposition of the eclectic styles meet to create one coherent and uniquely visual African story. The range of silk twillys, pouches, bags, scarves and velvet cushions, and now, Ecoffee Cup, showcase the works of a collective of diverse South African artists.
Wanderland’s range of products are designed by South African artists, made locally and hand-embroidered or beaded by local women, from the comfort of their homes.

The Wanderland Collection is created with the world’s fastest growing, most sustainable crop – naturally organic, bamboo fibre and non-GMO corn starch. Ecoffee cup is BPA and phthalate free, a tactile experience similar to thick, yet light, cardboard. It is also naturally sterile, preventing flavor taint. The Wanderland Ecoffee Cup is light, dishwater safe and has a fully resealable drip proof lid, making it a perfect On-The-Go cup.

Artist and textile designer Nicole Levenberg was inspired by the natural beauty of the wild African bush, loose hand-drawn lines form depictions of aloes and indigenous South African trees. The blue and white colouring is reminiscent of our love for delft ceramics embedded in our Cape Dutch heritage. Each year, 100 billion single-use coffee cups end up as landfill. Nicole Levenberg 's inspiration, "Being a native Joburger, December holidays were always spent alongside the Cape coast where the exotic allure of the ocean took hold. This coupled with endless hours watching the whimsical underwater worlds of “Planet Earth”, catalysed the desire to capture this weird and wonderful space on fabric. Curling, twirling shells, textured mosses, dancing algae and darting jellyfish submerge us into this magical aquatic world." Faatimah Mohamed-Luke's ‘Mother Tongue’ is inspired by the knowledge we learn outside of our formal education. The knowledge taught through storytelling and narratives that have passed through lineages over centuries. Knowledge that takes the form of a visual language, present around us in everyday items and ceremonial traditions. Knowledge that is older and yet still very relevant. The addition of this ancient knowledge comes in the form of patterns and symbolism. Within these pieces, the symbols have been deconstructed so that we may relearn and examine the meanings and messages behind each symbol and colour combination. Within the pattern and between the pattern I have created an openness and open-mindedness between our cultures. My hope is that in sharing and learning our newfound collective knowledge, we will create a rich and more accurate global history.  This understanding of the past and present should ultimately create admiration and respect for our uniqueness.   Each year, 100 billion single-use coffee cups end up as landfill. Zhi Zulu was inspired by  "Mageba' a clan name of the Zulus. Zulu culture is an important theme running through my art and the visual narratives that I create. This character found in the design is based on an ancient story about the first man to ever appear in the universe, Umvelinqangi.
